Suns, Chargers record hoop victories

The Southeastern Suns and Illini West Chargers found their way back into the win column, while other area teams were defeated in area high school boys basketball action Tuesday evening.
SOUTHEASTERN 71, CENTRAL 51
At Central High School, the Suns dominated the second quarter on the way to beating the Panthers for the third time in as many tries this season.
Leading 14-11 after eight minutes, Southeastern (10-4) rolled up 23 points in the second period to build a 37-17 halftime lead. They added 24 more points in the third quarter in building a 61-34 advantage heading into the final period.
Regan Bruenger led four Southeastern players with 18 points. Sean Grosinic (17) was right behind, followed by Cody Jefferson (15) and Zach Wood (13).
Central (5-7) had 10 players score, but none reached double figures.
ILLINI WEST 56, WESTERN 47
At Carthage, the second quarter proved to be the difference as the Chargers downed the visitors in this non-conference contest.
Illini West led 12-10 after eight minutes, but posted a 17-8 advantage in the second quarter to build a 29-18 halftime lead. Western (8-4) out-scored Illini West in each of the final two periods, but the Chargers would maintain control in recording their second straight victory.
Jacob Schmudlach and Cody Carson led the IWHS offense with 21 and 15 points respectively.
Tyler Harris and Adam Smith topped Western High with 13 and 12 points respectively.
HAVANA 89, RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 58
At Rushville, the Rockets hit the floor for a contest for the first time since December 22 and were soundly defeated by the visiting Ducks.
Havana out-scored RIHS (1-10) in each quarter. The lead would be 19-13 after one quarter and balloon from there. The Ducks enjoyed a 43-26 halftime lead and a 65-41 advantage following three periods.
Michael Thomas and Jordan Easley paced RIHS with 21 and 20 points respectively for the Rockets.
Alex Noble and Taylor Walker each had 22 for Havana (10-5).
ROWVA 67, WEST PRAIRIE 55
At Oneida, the Cyclones used a 20-point second quarter to take a halftime lead. But the home team rallied in the second half in recording a non-conference victory.
West Prairie (4-10) out-scored ROWVA (5-9) by a 20-9 count in the second period to grab a 31-26 halftime lead. However, the Tigers roared back in the third quarter seizing a 41-40 lead heading into the final eight minutes. ROWVA scored 26 points in the final eight minutes to pull away for the win.
Drake Webster had six 3-pointers in finishing with 21 points for West Prairie. Jansen Baker added 12 for the Cyclones.
Andrew Kovacik and David Hazlett paced ROWVA with 19 and 18 points respectively.
ALWOOD 79, MONMOUTH-ROSEVILLE 70
At Woodhull, the Aces grabbed a 38-22 halftime advantage on the way to recording a non-conference victory over the Titans.
Monmouth-Roseville (6-6), which has dropped six of its last eight games, made just 4-of-10 from the free throw line in the opening half. AlWood finished 12-of-19 in the initial 16 minutes, 10-of-14 in the second quarter on the way to building its sizeable halftime edge.
For the game, AlWood (4-8) finished 24-of-40 from the line, compared to 13-of-24 for Monmouth-Roseville.
Nick Leary and Alex Bresnahan led Monmouth-Roseville with 16 and 14 points respectively.
Cameron Teel and Luke Brandt tallied 24 and 20 points respectively for the Aces.
