Chargers, Rebels record victories

The Illini West Chargers won a showdown against state-ranked Aledo-Westmer, while South Fulton improved to 3-1 in area high school football action played Friday night.
ILLINI WEST 36, ALEDO-WESTMER 22
At Fuzz Berges Field in Carthage, No. 4 Illini West strolled out to a 28-0 halftime lead on the way to toppling the No. 2 Green Dragon in this contest of state-ranked Class 3A squads.
QB Michael Lafferty ran for a pair of first half scores, while Kris Vincent had a two-yard fumble return for a score as the Chargers built a 28-0 lead at halftime. Stefan Flynn added an 11-yard TD run in the third quarter to help IWHS (4-0) maintain control.
Flynn finished with 159 yards on 32 carries as the Chargers recorded 270 yards rushing on 55 carries. Lafferty had 62 yards rushing and completed two passes for 40 yards.
Drake Schmudlach's 21 yard TD run gave IW a 14-0 just over one minutes into the second quarter.
Matt Dawson had two second half TDs for Aledo-Westmer, but the Chargers led 36-7 by that point. He scored on a 17-yard run on the final play of the third quarter and added an 86-yard TD run with 8.6 seconds remaining.
The Green Dragons had 222 yards of total offense, but just 20 yards by halftime.
Derek VanFleet recorded four solo tackles and four assists, while Jesse Holtsclaw finished with five solo tackles for the Chargers.
SOUTH FULTON 32, BEARDSTOWN 6
At Beardstown, the Rebels won for the second straight week as Dylan Westlake threw for four TD passes against the host Tigers.
Tyler Perry's 29-yard TD run opened the scoring for the Rebels in the first quarter.
With the score 6-6, the Rebels to control in the second quarter as Westlake connected for TDs on three consecutive passes. He connected with Brennan Parks for a 17-yard strike to make it 13-6. Westlake would later connect with Bryce Kelly for a 61-yard score and Danny Vance for a 12 score on TD as the Rebels built a 25-6 halftime lead.
Westlake and Parks hooked up for a second time in the fourth quarter - this time on a 33-yard play to round out the scoring.
Westlake finished 11-of-23 for 227 yards with one interception.
The Rebel defense held Beardstown (1-3) to 43 yards on 39 carries. Tiger QBs were intercepted five times in 18 attempts, including two by Vance  as Beardstown finished with 113 yards passing.
