The BPCA Spartans officially clinched a playoff spot by beating Mendon Unity/Payson-Seymour 54-0 Saturday afternoon at Unity High School.
BPCA won its fifth straight game as it improved to 6-2 overall, 5-0 in West Prairie Trail Southeast division play. The Spartans can clinch the division title with a win at Havana Friday.
Unity-Payson dropped to 0-8 overall, 0-5 in league play in getting shut out for the fourth straight week.
The Mustangs dominated the time of possession in the first half, running 44 offensive plays, while the Spartans had only 15. But BPCA took advantage of big plays, including Colin Douglas' 58- and 92-yard touchdown runs, to take a 40-0 lead at halftime.
The Mustangs' best chance came to score late in the first half when they drove to the Spartans' 3. The drive ended when Douglas intercepted a pass from Aaron Wittler in the end zone.
Douglas finished with 223 yards on only six carries as BPCA recorded 418 yards rushing.
Henry Dodd, who blocked an extra point, led Unity/Payson offensively with 54 yards on 10 carries. Unity finished with 138 yards.
