In response to Galen Weitkamp’s letter of June 25, in which he presents the scenario of a man and a woman (who is pregnant) deciding not to marry “Because there’s this married gay couple that lives down the street.” It is my understanding from the rest of his letter that he feels gay “marriage” has no effect on traditional marriage.
In reality, it very well can. God ordained traditional marriage is respected and cherished. In most cases, it is capable of producing the next generation. On the other hand, gay “marriage” is a man made institution which is contrary to God’s intention. It cannot produce the next generation.
Therefore, to put gay “marriage” on par with traditional marriage is like mixing apples and oranges. In time, this can diminish respect for traditional marriage and thus weaken the family structure.
Consequences such as higher illegitimacy rates can result. Think about it, gay “marriage” is tampering with the concept of marriage itself and indeed has far reaching effects.
